When I went to the AAA travel show a few weeks ago, a friend and I discovered a hotel/train package at the Grand Canyon. Now I LOVE trains so we did some research and decided to go for it. Louisa and I are going to AAA tonight to sign up for Columbus Day weekend. We get the package at a great discount - about 20% off plus an upgrade to first class for the rate quoted at the website for Grand Canyon Railroad for a coach package.
We can book our own airfare and rental car online unless AAA offers us a deal but they're usually not as cheap as doing it ourselves.
We're planning on flying to Phoeniz and driving up to Sedona then on to Williams where the hotel/train is. The train goes to the rim of the canyon. We'll spend the night at a place near the canyon so we can wander around, then take the train back the next afternoon.
The only thing we don't know about is whether we can walk around the sights at the south rim or if we'll need to rent a car there for 24 hours. But there's still time to find that out.
I am psyched!
